Headline and Overview
Inc42 reported on 15 July 2026 that Groww's consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 2026 was Rs 735 crore, up 94.3% from Rs 378.4 crore a year earlier and up 7.1% from Rs 686.4 crore in the previous quarter. Operating revenue was Rs 1,501.4 crore, up 66% from Rs 904.4 crore, and roughly flat on the previous quarter's Rs 1,505.4 crore. With other income of Rs 47.3 crore, total revenue was Rs 1,548.7 crore. Total expenses were Rs 555.7 crore, up 25% year on year, and EBITDA was Rs 971 crore, up 101% on the year and 3% on the quarter, according to the company's investor presentation. Profit margin expanded by 7.6 percentage points year on year.
Customers and products
Net client additions were 115,000 in the quarter, which the company said came despite an industry-wide slowdown. Mutual fund assets under management stood at Rs 1.9 lakh crore. The mix of revenue shifted: the margin trading facility contributed 8% of revenue, up from 3% a year earlier, and commodity derivatives, launched in the second quarter of FY26, accounted for 4.9% of total income. In lending, secured loans rose to 18.5% of the portfolio from 13.5% in the previous quarter, with loans against securities the largest contributor to growth; disbursements through Groww Creditserv Technology grew 26.1% over the quarter, and loans against securities made up 35% of that total. The shareholder letter said: "our loans against securities (LAS) product anchored this quarter's growth." The shares closed 6.16% higher at Rs 216.40 on the BSE that day. The article gave no market share figure.
“Our loans against securities (LAS) product anchored this quarter's growth.”
Why watch: our analysis
1. Operating leverage. Revenue rose 66% while expenses rose 25%, so profit grew faster than sales. 2. Diversification beyond commissions. Margin trading, lending and commodities reduce dependence on simple equity trading volumes. 3. Flat sequential revenue. Revenue was flat from the previous quarter, which suggests growth may be slowing from its earlier pace, a point the quarter-on-quarter profit rise partly masks. 4. Lending raises the stakes. Lending against securities can be lucrative, but credit and market risk follow. A sharp fall in markets could hurt both trading volumes and loan quality.
Risks
Revenue depends on market activity, which rises and falls. Regulatory changes affecting trading, derivatives or lending could alter the economics. The company's growing credit exposure brings risks that a pure broker does not have. The article did not report loan losses, so we cannot judge asset quality.
Questions we would ask
How does the company manage risk on margin and securities loans in a sharp market fall? What proportion of revenue is recurring versus tied to trading volumes? How does the cost of acquiring a customer compare with their lifetime revenue? Is the sequentially flat revenue a pause or a trend?
What it means for ordinary investors
A profitable platform is more likely to last, but profit does not make any product right for you. Margin facilities and derivatives magnify losses as well as gains. New investors should start with simple, diversified products and read the risk disclosures.
Groww's mix shift shows a common pattern in consumer fintech: win customers with a simple product, then add services that fit their needs. The discipline is to add them only as fast as risk controls can follow.
Where the risks hide
In a business like this, risk shows up in places that headline profit does not reveal. Look for the proportion of revenue that comes from trading versus lending, the size of the loan book relative to equity, the share of loans that are secured, and how quickly the company can reduce exposure in a market fall. The article reported the secured share of the portfolio rising, which is generally a more conservative direction, but we did not see data on credit losses. Until those appear, a prudent reader keeps the profit figure in context.
When choosing any investing platform, look at fees, how clearly risks are explained, how easy it is to withdraw money, and how the platform handles complaints. A strong profit report tells you the company is healthy; it does not tell you the service suits your needs. Start with small amounts, keep records and avoid borrowing to invest.
